Do you have the courage to be yourself?

Someone once said that is what it means to be authentic; to have courage to be yourself. Seems silly right? To be something you already are, but the truth is I believe ‘being yourself’ has become increasingly challenging in today’s world. With the pervasive influence of social media and today’s culture, we’re constantly seeking to embody the ideal version of ourselves, only to realize that our authentic selves seem to pale in comparison to others. It’s becoming a big cycle many are getting trapped in.

Until now.

Hello! I’m Emily Gates, the creator of Authenticite. I created this blog as a resource to help people find happiness by practicing self care. My ultimate goal is to help others find happiness because everyone deserves to be happy. Happiness, self care, and authenticity go hand and hand.

Happiness starts with understanding yourself. You must know what makes you happy! Do you like small bookshops you can cozy up and read in while it rains? Do you like canyon drives smelling the crisp pine air? How about rocking out at your favorite concert? Now, the reason you enjoy those is because you’re practicing self care. According to the Global Self-care Federation,”Self-care is the practice of individuals looking after their own health using the knowledge and information available to them.” Self care means actively showing up for yourself. When you start to appreciate yourself, life starts to appreciate you. You’ll find things just attracting to you because you’re being your authentic self. Professor and Ted Talk speaker Brene Brown quotes, “authenticity is the daily practice of letting go who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are”. Don’t you agree?

Every week each episode of the blog will have a self care theme with two of the three references: a scholarly reference to provide higher education and facts, a social media reference to provide trending and popular aspects, and a real world reference where I provide info I’ve learned or seen in my life. My hope is everyone will be able use this blog as a tool because it offers nine sections with a variety of content on both spectrums. The categories include: Body, Craft, Financial, Food & Drink, Lifestyle, Mind, Miscellaneous, Skin & Hair, and Travel.

To break the cycle of comparison, we need to be authentic and really understand we are all different and shouldn’t be compared. I know it sounds cheesy but if we take the time to really know ourselves, we’ll realize we’re all at different points of life and can have comfort in that. It’s okay to do every day life differently! Be yourself, because everyone else is already taken. Only you know how to take care of yourself and what makes you happy. However, we can learn tips and tricks from each other too. I want this to be a safe space for people to easily share their experiences and connect with a supportive community to encourage self-care practices and personal growth!

When reading about self care, you will find valuable insights and tips for improving your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. You’ll learn how to prioritize self-care, manage stress, form healthy habits, and enhance overall quality of life! It can inspire you to incorporate self-care practices into your daily routine, leading to greater happiness and fulfillment.

Because I want people to be able to share their thoughts and feelings, I’m going to make the episodes a little bit shorter. This is meant to be learning tool, not a huge lesson! I also don’t want this just to be another social media outlet, but something you guys can feel comfortable chatting on! This will be a ‘go as you think of it’ type of blog so feel free to ask about anything you are interested in by commenting at the end of the episode per week.

Together let’s learn how to prioritize our time, take control of our lives, and empower each other along the path way. Utilize this blog as the ultimate resource to guide and enhance your own journey. Join me on a journey to build a better self!
